Telkom has announced that it will no longer accept payments through the South African Post Office


Telkom has announced that it will no longer accept payments through the South African Post Office. The telecommunications company stated that this change aims to streamline payment processes for customers.

Albertus Venter, Telkom's consumer operations managing executive, said that the company remains committed to offering simple and convenient payment options. Customers are encouraged to explore alternative payment channels such as direct EFT payments or signing up for a debit order.

The South African Post Office is currently facing financial difficulties and was placed in provisional liquidation earlier this year. The government has budgeted a R2.4 billion bailout for the Post Office this year and is defending its monopoly on parcels lighter than 1kg.

The Post Office has applied to overturn its provisional liquidation and be placed under business rescue instead. This would allow it to pause repayments on outstanding debts and negotiate with creditors to avoid going out of business.

How will it affect Telkom's Customers?

Telkom has acknowledged that the change may be unexpected and inconvenient for some customers who still use the Post Office as a payment channel. However, Telkom remains committed to offering simple and convenient payment options to its customers. Customers are encouraged to explore alternative payment channels such as direct EFT payments through their banks or signing up for a debit order. This is a hassle-free method to ensure seamless settlement of monthly accounts .
